Office Party Etiquette: 4 Tips to Remember

Office parties can be a tricky affair; you want to have fun and enjoy the company of your co-workers in a non-work dynamic, but you must also keep in mind that you are amongst professionals, and maintaining this balance is key. We have hosted some office parties over the years, and our representatives have a few tips on how to conduct yourself in an office party in order to ensure that you get the most fun out of it and still keep your professional reputation intact.

Before you even think about your conduct at the party, it is also important to keep in mind your conduct outside of the party. Do not overlook the transportation factor, especially since, in all probability, you will have a few alcoholic beverages. Consider pulling a few of your colleagues together and contracting the services of a reputable car service such as our Bronx car service.

With a concierge car service like ours, not only will you arrive and leave the venue in style, but a professional chauffeur will be waiting to safely transfer each of you to your homes once the festivities are concluded. Don’t hesitate and contact our Long Island limousine service as soon as possible.

Below are a few etiquette tips for all your subsequent office parties.

Be Punctual

Not everyone is into office parties, some people want to completely separate their personal lives from their work life, and that’s okay. If you fall under this category, don’t wait till the end of the night to make an appearance, some people may notice your late arrival and lack of enthusiasm. Instead, arrive on time, mingle with your colleagues then politely ask to be excused later on. This way, you will have demonstrated that you are part of the team and everyone will simply assume that you had some personal matters to attend to, which is why you had to leave early.

Dress Code

If there is no dress code specified for the occasion, then it means that everyone is expected to show up in party clothes. So, toss the suit aside and show up in something more casual. On the other hand, if there is a specified dress code or theme, then go ahead and play along. If the idea was to come in an ugly sweater, wear the ugliest sweater you can find. Note, however, the most important rule when it comes to dressing for an office party, no matter the theme, or lack thereof, is to remain decent.

Watch your Intake

Most office parties will have an open bar paid for by the establishment. Do not fall into the temptation of overindulging. Stick to your drink of choice, pace yourself, and drink lots of water in between.

Put Down the Phone

Office parties are thrown for the purpose of celebrating the employees and giving them a chance to get to know each other better. How can you get to know your fellow workmates if you spend half the time on your phone? If you must check your phone, then do so promptly and put it back in your pocket/bag. Mingle, get to know people from new departments, who knows, you might end up making a good friend.
